2015/01/04 – Carving a handle for my Cold Steel Trailhawk

Besides the spoon in the previous post, I also did a new handle for my Cold Steel Trailhawk.
Everything was done with my carving axe.
Surprisingly it was easier then expected.

This is the piece I brought back from the forest yesterday.

Chopping the rough shape.

Then the rest was done by shaving it mostly.

It will most likely shrink a bit, but thats ok. The top part i left quite wide, and even if it still shinks too much so the head goes off, then I will try to make it again, but this time only with the trailhawk head, and directly in the forest.
It will be a nice challenge for at the fire on a trip 🙂

Here a short video where I test it out on pieces of 3 year dried oak wood.
