{"id":1609,"date":"2015-01-02T21:05:12","date_gmt":"2015-01-02T20:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dabberty.com\/?p=1609"},"modified":"2025-01-28T12:19:55","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T11:19:55","slug":"20150102-my-refurbished-and-modified-axe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dabberty.com\/?p=1609","title":{"rendered":"2015\/01\/02 &#8211; My refurbished and modified axe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Due to receiving several questions lately about axes, which one to choose, which length, weight, etc, I thought I would post the below to give a clear picture on why I chose for this axe, why I modified it, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So this below is why it works for ME, and since everyone is different, it may not work for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So this is the axe.<br>\nThe head I bought long time ago on a local website here, similar like Ebay.<br>\nWith vinegar I cleaned the head, and reshaped it with a angle grinder and lots of cooling in between.<br>\nThe shape is explained further below.<br>\nThe handle had several coats of olive oil, and after that rubbed it in with pure bee wax.<br>\nThe leather sheath and guard are made from an old leather school bag.<br>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dabberty.com\/?attachment_id=1610\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1610\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dabberty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mijnbijl00.jpg\" alt=\"mijnbijl00\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1610\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dabberty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mijnbijl00.jpg 800w, https:\/\/dabberty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mijnbijl00-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The length is 55 cm, which is a perfect fit from hand to armpit.<br>\nSome people describe this length to be the perfect size for a bushcraft axe.<br>\nWell, I agree that that it is a good size, but for me. People in some other countries migth not need a size like this, and prefer a smaller hatchet since they only need it for processing branches and small pieces of wood.
